How to bid FAB: the ChevStats bidding guide
By Kevin Chovanec · Updated
Every waiver player on our board comes with a bid range. Here's what that range means and how to turn it into a bid in your league.
What FAB is
FAB is your free agent budget. Each team gets a budget for the season, often $100, and bids on players on waivers. Bids are blind: nobody sees anyone else's bid, and the highest one wins. Whatever you spend is gone for the rest of the season.
How to read our ranges
Our ranges are a share of a $100 season budget. They're our opinion, based on the player's usage, not a projection. This week, Kendre Miller tops the Week 7 board at 12–18%.
Each player also gets a label:
- Add: the usage backs a real role now. Worth a meaningful bid.
- Streamer: a one-week play for a good matchup. Keep it cheap.
- Speculative: the role could grow, or it depends on someone else's injury. Small bid.
- Stash: not startable yet. Bid only if you have the bench spot.
- Superflex: a quarterback whose value depends on your format. We give separate ranges for superflex and 1-QB leagues.
Sizing your bid
- Convert to your budget. Multiply the range by your starting budget: 10–15% is $10–15 in a $100 league and $20–30 in a $200 league.
- Bid on need. Go to the top of the range, or past it, if the player fills a hole in your starting lineup. Go to the bottom if he'd sit on your bench.
- Watch what's left. Spending most of your budget early leaves you short when injuries hit later. A big bid is fine on a player who can start for the rest of the season, less so on a one-week fill-in.
- Know your league's rules. Whether $0 bids are allowed, how ties are broken and when claims run all change how you should bid.
